A cross-country storm is going to bring tricky travel conditions to a large part of the Plains states on Wednesday, eventually making its way to the eastern fringe of the country by the end of the week. While we previewed this storm earlier, here is a more precise look at the timing of the impacts.

Cross-country Storm to Impact Dozens of States This Week

The storm that has been whalloping the Pacific Northwest to start the week is chugging to the east, bringing millions more Americans into its wrath. Forecasters say that this coast-to-coast storm is yet another byproduct of the active start to the winter season due to the influence of La Niña winter. Up to 30 states are expected to be affected by this far-reaching system.

The latest weather maker will undoubtedly impact travel across major interstates and airports in the days ahead. High winds will be one of the most impactful elements of this storm. Wind gusts will reach up to 70 mph across the northern Rockies and the northern Plains beginning on Wednesday and lingering through Thursday.

Satellite imagery shows a sprawling storm system stretching from the Pacific Northwest into the central and eastern United States, driven by an active La Niña pattern and expected to impact up to 30 states with wind, snow, and rain this week. NOAA/NESDIS
